Social Anthropology and Spanish

The MA (Hons) Social Anthropology at St Andrews explores the huge diversity of contemporary human experience, analysing what makes us similar and different from each other. The course teaches you to take a comparative and global view of human individuality, society and culture, studying how people make meaningful lives in extremely diverse settings across Europe, the Pacific, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. You will examine topics as diverse as belief, politics, gender, illness, art, migration, colonialism and postcolonialism, or our relationship with the environment.

You will question taken-for-granted ideas and learn to understand how others see the world. The MA (Hons) in Social Anthropology is a four-year course run by the Department of Social Anthropology. The course explores the diversity of human experience from a standpoint that is reflexive and critically aware.

You will learn to study the lives of others while examining your own position in the world.
