About this course

Robotics and artificial intelligence is a discipline that sits at the intersection of engineering and computer science, concerned with building systems that can perceive their environment, make decisions and act in the physical world. Robotics covers the mechanical, electrical and computational systems that allow machines to move and interact with their surroundings. Artificial intelligence provides the algorithms and learning methods that allow those machines to interpret sensory data, plan actions and adapt to changing conditions.

Together they are shaping the future of manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, exploration and human-computer interaction.

At Edge Hill University you will study robotics and artificial intelligence over four years of full-time study, beginning with a STEM foundation year that develops the core skills and subject-specific knowledge in biology, computer science, engineering and geography needed to succeed in science-based degree programmes. This foundation year is integrated into the full programme and provides a supportive entry route for students who want to strengthen their scientific and technical preparation before engaging with the specialist degree content. You will then develop knowledge of programming, machine learning, robotic systems, sensor integration, computer vision and autonomous systems, building both theoretical understanding and practical engineering competency.

Graduates of robotics and AI programmes work in manufacturing and process automation, logistics, healthcare technology, research and development, autonomous vehicle development, defence systems, space exploration and technology consulting.
