Robotics and Artificial Intelligence with Integrated Foundation Year
Robotics and artificial intelligence represent two of the most consequential areas of technology in the modern world. Robotics is concerned with designing and building physical systems that can sense their environment, make decisions, and act in it, while artificial intelligence develops the computational methods that make autonomous, adaptive behaviour possible. Together they are transforming manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, agriculture, and many other sectors, and the people who can work at the intersection of the two are in growing demand globally.
At University College London, this five-year, full-time programme includes an integrated foundation year, which provides the mathematical and scientific grounding needed before you progress into the main degree. The foundation year is designed for students who have strong potential but may not have studied all the prerequisite subjects at A-level. From there the programme moves into core computer science and engineering concepts, including programming, data structures, machine learning, computer vision, control systems, sensor fusion, and the physical design and simulation of robotic systems.

You will develop the ability to think rigorously about both the technical challenges of building intelligent systems and the ethical questions they raise, including issues of safety, accountability, bias in machine learning, and the societal implications of automation.
Graduates from robotics and artificial intelligence programmes are well positioned for careers in technology companies working on autonomous systems, in research laboratories, in industries deploying robotics at scale, and in start-ups building products that use machine learning and intelligent sensing. Roles span software engineering, systems design, research, and product development. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate research in robotics, AI, or related engineering fields.
