About this course

Real estate sits at the heart of economies, communities and everyday life. Property markets shape where people live and work, how businesses grow, and how wealth is created and managed over time. Studying real estate means engaging seriously with economics, finance, planning and law, and understanding how these forces interact across commercial, residential and industrial sectors.

It is a discipline that demands both analytical rigour and practical judgement, combining quantitative methods with an understanding of place, policy and human behaviour.

You will examine real estate markets from the perspectives of economics, investment and business, building expertise in commercial property, investment strategy, asset management, valuation and development. The programme develops your ability to assess risk, understand market cycles and apply financial modelling to property decisions. Alongside technical skills in valuation and appraisal, you will think critically about sustainability, urban change and the social dimensions of property.

A year abroad is included in this four-year programme, giving you the opportunity to study real estate in an international context and broaden your understanding of how property markets operate across different legal and economic systems.

Graduates move into a wide range of careers within the property sector and beyond. Surveying and valuation roles, property investment and asset management, development consultancy, property finance, and estate agency are all common pathways. Many graduates pursue professional qualification, and the discipline also leads into broader careers in banking, infrastructure investment and the public sector.

Further study at postgraduate level is an option for those wishing to specialise in areas such as real estate finance, urban planning or international property markets.

Exceeded expectations
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” the ci…

Highly recommend
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: access to facilities (workshop, equipment, specialist software) is genuinely first-rate. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” t…
