About this course

Quantity surveying is the discipline concerned with the financial and contractual management of construction projects. A quantity surveyor is responsible for estimating costs, procuring contracts, managing budgets, valuing work in progress and advising on the economic feasibility of construction from initial concept through to project completion. The role sits at the intersection of construction technology, law, finance and project management, and qualified quantity surveyors are integral to virtually every significant building and infrastructure project in the UK and internationally.

At Huddersfield, this three-year programme provides a thorough professional grounding in the principles and practice of quantity surveying. You will study measurement and estimating, contract law, procurement strategy, project economics, building technology, construction management and professional practice. The programme includes a sandwich year and work placement opportunities, which means you will have the chance to work within a quantity surveying practice, a construction contractor or a client organisation, applying your knowledge in a live professional context.

This hands-on experience is highly valued in the industry and typically gives graduates a significant advantage when entering the job market. The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points.
