Psychology With Mental Health

Psychology with mental health combines a grounding in psychology as a scientific discipline with specialist attention to the nature, causes, and treatment of mental health difficulties. Understanding mental health is increasingly recognised as essential not just for those working directly in clinical settings but for professionals across education, social care, criminal justice, human resources, and many other fields. This part-time degree at the University of Lincoln includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and embedded work placement experience, giving you multiple forms of practical engagement alongside your academic study.

You will develop a thorough grounding in psychology as a science, covering core areas such as biological, cognitive, developmental, social, and personality psychology, before focusing increasingly on mental health themes. You will learn about the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders, examine the biological, social, psychological, and environmental factors that influence mental health and wellbeing across the lifespan, and explore concepts of vulnerability and resilience. The treatment side of the programme examines evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including the theoretical foundations of counselling and psychotherapy, giving you an understanding of how psychological practitioners support people experiencing mental health difficulties.
