Psychology with Education

Psychology with education is a combination that speaks directly to some of the most pressing challenges in contemporary schools and learning environments. Psychology provides the scientific understanding of how minds develop, how people learn, what motivates behaviour, and how mental health affects engagement and achievement. Education brings the institutional and professional context in which that understanding must be applied, asking how schools work, how inequalities in access and outcomes arise, and how teaching practice can be improved to serve all students well.

At Leeds you will study the core areas of psychological science alongside education content that addresses the real challenges facing teachers and learners today: limited resources, unequal access, mental health difficulties, and the diverse needs of students in complex school environments. Psychology modules cover cognitive, developmental, social, and clinical psychology, giving you the scientific foundations that underlie educational applications. Education content introduces you to learning theory, educational policy, child development, and the evidence base for effective teaching practice.

The three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich placement year and a year abroad, giving you direct experience in an educational or psychological context and an international perspective on how different systems approach the challenges of schooling.

Graduates go on to careers in education, educational psychology support roles, school counselling, SEND support, teaching, social work, youth services, research, and policy. Many continue to postgraduate study in educational psychology, clinical psychology, teaching, social work, or education policy. The combination is particularly well suited to those who want to understand and address the psychological dimensions of educational experience, whether as a practitioner, a researcher, or a policy professional.
