Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, asking how we think, learn, remember, perceive, feel, and relate to one another. It encompasses an enormous range of questions, from how the brain encodes memories and processes emotions to how social contexts shape behaviour, how language is acquired, and what goes wrong in mental health conditions. It is a discipline that brings the methods of science to bear on some of the most intimate and consequential aspects of human life, and it develops graduates who can think rigorously and with genuine curiosity about people.

At the University of Strathclyde this four-year full-time programme provides a vibrant learning environment for exploring human behaviour across all its dimensions. You will study the major sub-fields of psychology, including cognitive, developmental, social, biological, and clinical perspectives, building both theoretical depth and practical research skills. Statistics and research methods are central to the curriculum, reflecting psychology's scientific foundations, and you will carry out your own empirical investigations as well as critically evaluating the research of others.

A year abroad is part of the programme, giving you the chance to study at a partner institution and experience psychology in a different academic and cultural setting.

Graduates in psychology are among the most adaptable in the UK graduate market. Those who wish to practise as clinical, educational, forensic, occupational, or health psychologists typically continue to postgraduate training, for which a strong undergraduate degree is the essential foundation. Others move into human resources, market research, counselling, healthcare, the civil service, education, and social work, where psychological insight and research skills are consistently valued.

Many graduates also continue to postgraduate research in psychology, neuroscience, or related disciplines.
