Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, and it is one of the most popular and versatile disciplines available at undergraduate level. It examines everything from the neural mechanisms underlying perception and memory to the social forces that shape how people behave in groups, developing in its students both a rigorous scientific method and a deep curiosity about human experience. The core areas of the discipline, including cognitive, developmental, social, biological and clinical psychology, together provide a comprehensive account of what it means to be a thinking, feeling, social animal.

At the University of Bedfordshire, this three-year full-time programme covers those core areas while also offering optional units in more specialised territory, including atypical child development, counselling, criminal behaviour and cognitive neuropsychology. This flexibility allows you to shape your degree towards your own interests and the career direction you are working towards. You will develop research skills, including both quantitative and qualitative methods, that are central to psychological science and that transfer well into many professional contexts.

Psychology graduates work across a remarkably wide range of sectors. Many go on to postgraduate training in clinical, counselling, educational, forensic or occupational psychology, all of which require a British Psychological Society-accredited undergraduate degree as a first step. Others move into careers in human resources, marketing, health and social care, education, research and the civil service, where the combination of analytical rigour and understanding of human behaviour is genuinely valued.
