Psychology, Clinical & Cognitive Neuroscience
Psychology, clinical and cognitive neuroscience is a degree that bridges two of the most intellectually exciting areas in the life sciences, one concerned with the full range of human behaviour, thought and social experience, and the other with the biological mechanisms of the brain and nervous system that underlie them. At Royal Holloway, University of London, this three-year full-time programme combines rigorous scientific training in psychology with specialist study of neuroscience at both cognitive and clinical levels, developing graduates who understand both the behavioural and the neural dimensions of human experience. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, adding professional and international experience to a demanding academic core.
You will study the major areas of psychology, including perception, attention, memory, language, emotion, social behaviour and individual differences, alongside neuroscience content covering neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, cognitive neuroscience and the neural correlates of both normal function and clinical conditions. Research methods and statistics are central to both disciplines, and you will develop the quantitative skills to design and analyse experiments as well as to interpret the growing literature on brain and behaviour. Royal Holloway's programme is informed by active research in both psychology and neuroscience, and the placement and year abroad extend your learning into professional and international settings.

Graduates pursue careers in clinical and health psychology, neurological and psychiatric services, biomedical research, the pharmaceutical industry, occupational psychology, human factors and user experience. Many go on to doctoral-level clinical training, to research degrees in neuroscience or psychology, or to graduate programmes in related health professions.
