Primary Early Years Education With Qts

Teaching children in the early years of their education is work of real consequence. The experiences children have between the ages of three and seven shape their relationship with learning, their social development, and their confidence for years to come. This three-year full-time degree at Edge Hill University prepares you to teach children aged three to seven and leads to recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), the professional qualification required to teach in maintained schools in England. You will study child development theory and how it informs classroom practice, the design of play-based and structured learning experiences, curriculum frameworks including the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1, and approaches to supporting children with a range of needs and starting points. Practical school placements are central to the programme, giving you increasing responsibility in real classroom settings throughout your training and helping you to connect theory with the day-to-day realities of teaching.

You will also develop expertise in early literacy and numeracy, understand the role of observation and assessment in the early years, and learn to work effectively with parents and carers as partners in children's education. The programme addresses the importance of fostering children's curiosity, creativity, and love of learning from the very start of their formal schooling. A typical entry tariff of 120 points reflects the academic and professional standards required.

Graduates qualify to teach in nurseries, reception classes, and Key Stage 1 settings in state and independent schools. Many go on to take additional responsibilities as subject leads or special educational needs coordinators, and further study at postgraduate level supports those interested in school leadership, educational research, or specialist advisory roles.
