Politics and International Relations and Spanish

Politics and international relations, combined with Spanish, provides a three-way intellectual framework for understanding power and its exercise, the relationships between states, and the linguistic and cultural world of one of the planet's most widely spoken languages. Politics equips you with the theories and analytical tools to understand how governments work, how policies are made, and how institutions shape collective life. International relations extends that analysis to the global stage, examining how states and non-state actors interact, compete, and cooperate.

Spanish opens the door to the political and cultural worlds of Spain, Latin America, and the growing Spanish-speaking communities in the United States.

At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year full-time programme develops all three strands in depth. You will study the behaviour of governments and those they govern, engaging with domestic and international institutions and the major issues of contemporary politics, from terrorism and conflict to democratic participation and the challenges of global governance. The Spanish component develops your linguistic competence alongside knowledge of the history, society, and politics of the Spanish-speaking world.
