Podiatry is the clinical healthcare profession concerned with the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. The feet are among the most complex structures in the human body, and the problems they develop, from structural deformities and skin conditions to neurological and vascular complications, have wide-ranging effects on mobility, independence, and quality of life. Podiatrists work across primary, secondary, and community care settings, treating patients across the full range of ages and health conditions, and they play a particularly important role in the management of high-risk foot conditions in patients with diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.

The four-year undergraduate Master of Podiatry and BSc (Hons) Podiatry course at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh equips you with the expertise and practical skills needed to work as a registered podiatrist in the private or public health and social care sector. You will benefit from placements each year, providing structured clinical experience across a range of settings and patient populations from the outset of your studies, as well as practical experience in specialist clinical facilities on campus. The course covers biomechanics, dermatology, vascular assessment, wound care, nail surgery, pharmacology, and the management of complex systemic conditions with lower limb complications, giving you the breadth of clinical knowledge that independent practice demands.

With a typical entry tariff of 152 points, the programme attracts students who combine scientific aptitude with patient-centred values. Graduates are eligible to register with the Health and Care Professions Council and to practise as podiatrists within NHS podiatry departments, community clinics, private practice, and sports medicine settings. Career progression leads to specialist roles, consultant-level practice, and leadership in podiatry services.
