Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that uses movement, exercise, manual therapy, technologies and education to help people affected by injury, illness or disability maintain or restore function and maximise their quality of life. It is a science-based profession that takes a whole-person approach to health and wellbeing, recognising that physical, psychological and social factors all contribute to how people experience and recover from health challenges. Physiotherapists work with patients of all ages across a remarkably wide range of conditions and settings, from acute hospital wards and orthopaedic rehabilitation to chronic pain management, neurological conditions, respiratory care and sports medicine.
At the University of Salford, this full-time three-year programme is designed to develop graduates who are competent, compassionate and critical thinkers, able to assess and treat patients effectively, work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the evidence base that underpins physiotherapy practice. Clinical placements are integrated throughout the programme, ensuring that you develop the practical skills and professional judgement that the role demands in direct contact with patients, alongside the academic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and research methods that underpins practice. The programme leads to registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) on completion.
Physiotherapy graduates work across the NHS, private healthcare, sports and exercise medicine, occupational health, charity and community settings, and international development contexts. Specialisation in areas such as musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological rehabilitation, paediatrics, cardiorespiratory care or women's health is supported by the profession's structured continuing professional development framework. Many graduates pursue further clinical training or postgraduate research in rehabilitation science, physiotherapy education or related clinical specialties.
