About this course

Physics is the science that investigates the fundamental nature of the universe, from the smallest particles to the largest structures and processes in existence. It addresses questions about the nature of matter and energy, the laws governing motion and forces, the behaviour of light and electromagnetic fields, and the deep structure of space and time. Areas such as quantum theory, relativity, and particle physics are not abstract curiosities but the foundations from which modern technologies, from computers and lasers to medical imaging and satellite communications, have been built.

At Queen's University Belfast, this four-year degree includes a year studying abroad, reflecting the reality that most frontier physics takes place in international collaborations. The combination with Spanish provides the linguistic and cultural competence to engage fully in the international scientific community and to work in Spanish-speaking environments, and is aimed at students who wish to continue their Spanish beyond school level. You will develop a thorough grounding in the core principles of physics, from classical mechanics and electromagnetism through to quantum mechanics, statistical physics, and the modern specialisms that define current research.
