About this course

Physics is the fundamental science, seeking to understand the laws that govern the universe from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest cosmological structures. Its methods, mathematical precision combined with experimental rigour, have produced the most accurate scientific theories ever devised, and its applications underpin virtually all modern technology. Studying physics develops problem-solving and quantitative reasoning skills of the highest order, skills that are valued far beyond the discipline itself.

At the University of Surrey, the BSc physics degree offers a flexible choice of modules across many different topics, covering both theoretical and applied areas of physics, and building on the broad range of expertise among the institution's academics. You will study the core domains of the subject, including classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and modern physics, developing the capacity to model complex systems and reason about physical phenomena with mathematical confidence.
