About this course

Physics at Imperial is one of the most demanding and intellectually exhilarating educational experiences available anywhere in the UK. Physics is the most fundamental of the sciences, concerned with understanding the laws that govern matter, energy and the cosmos at every scale, from quarks and leptons to galaxies and the large-scale structure of the universe. It is the discipline from which the technologies of the modern world, from semiconductors and lasers to quantum computing and gravitational wave detection, have emerged, and it continues to generate questions and discoveries that change what we thought we knew.

At Imperial College London this three-year, full-time programme builds a thorough understanding of classical and modern physics, mathematics and experimental methods, taught by staff who are among the world's leading physicists across fields from particle physics and quantum information to condensed matter and cosmology. You will explore how the laws of physics underpin science and engineering at every level, developing the mathematical rigour and physical intuition that characterise a serious physics education. The pace is demanding and the expectations high, but the intellectual environment and the research culture at Imperial provide exceptional preparation for a wide range of careers and further study.
