About this course

Physical education and sport at Stranmillis University College is an innovative, multidisciplinary degree that prepares you for careers across health promotion, education, and the broader field of sport. It combines practical knowledge of physical activity, sport science, and movement with academic study of health, pedagogy, and the social contexts in which physical education and sport operate. This three-year full-time BSc (Hons) includes a sandwich placement year and embedded work placement experience, giving you professional practice alongside academic learning.

You will study a blend of practical and academic content throughout the programme, covering areas such as exercise science, health promotion, pedagogy, coaching theory, and the psychology and sociology of sport and physical activity. Each year includes the equivalent of six modules, combining theoretical and applied learning, and in your second and third years you will have the opportunity to develop greater specialism by choosing from a range of optional modules. Work-based professional development is embedded throughout, giving you structured opportunities to engage with real professional settings in education, sport, and health.

A typical entry tariff of 136 UCAS points reflects a broadly accessible admissions standard. Graduates from physical education and sport programmes pursue careers in schools and educational settings as PE teachers, in community sport and leisure development, coaching and performance roles, health promotion and exercise referral, sports administration, and the increasingly significant area of sport for health and wellbeing. Many continue to postgraduate study or teacher training, developing their expertise in specific areas of the discipline.

I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” loc…

Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city wi…
