At Coventry University you will develop as an independent, creative, critical, and adaptable practitioner across three years of full-time study. You will explore the history and theory of photography alongside sustained practical work, building technical proficiency in areas spanning documentary, editorial, fine art, and commercial photography. The programme is designed to respond to an evolving industry, so you will also develop an understanding of digital workflows, post-production, and the platforms through which contemporary photographic work circulates.

Critical thinking sits at the heart of the course: you will learn to contextualise your own practice within broader visual and cultural debates, building the intellectual confidence to justify creative decisions and respond to briefs from diverse clients and contexts. This course includes a sandwich year and a year abroad, giving you extended time in a professional environment as well as international experience that broadens both your practice and your professional network. Work placement activity is embedded in the programme, further connecting your studies to industry.

The range of careers open to photography graduates is wide. Editorial and documentary photography, fashion and advertising work, gallery practice, photojournalism, and commercial portrait or product photography are all typical pathways. Many graduates also move into related fields including art direction, picture editing, visual research, and media production.
