Philosophy and theology and religious studies are disciplines that have been deeply intertwined throughout the history of human thought. Philosophy asks fundamental questions about knowledge, reality, morality, and human nature, bringing reason and argument to problems that cannot be settled by empirical investigation alone. Theology and religious studies examines the religious traditions that have shaped civilisation, the texts and practices through which communities have engaged with the sacred, and the ideas about God, moral life, and ultimate meaning that continue to animate billions of people across the world.

At the University of Glasgow, this four-year full-time programme allows you to engage with both disciplines at an institution with distinguished traditions in philosophy and theology. On the philosophy side you will study epistemology, ethics, philosophy of mind, metaphysics, logic, and the history of philosophical thought from the ancient world through to the present. On the theology and religious studies side you will examine the major world religions, their sacred texts, their historical development, and their contemporary significance, alongside the theological questions that arise within and between traditions.

A year abroad is part of the programme, deepening your intellectual engagement in a different cultural and academic context.
