At the University of York, this three-year full-time programme develops your capacity for careful philosophical thinking alongside your understanding of linguistic structure and method. You will engage with central areas of philosophy, including epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, and philosophy of mind, learning to construct and evaluate arguments with precision and to engage with major philosophical texts and debates. Your linguistics studies will cover phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, giving you the descriptive and analytical tools to examine how language is organised and how it functions in communication.

The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, giving you significant professional and international experience before you graduate.
