Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a healthcare profession centred on enabling people to participate in the activities that matter to them, despite the physical, mental, or cognitive difficulties that may be limiting their daily lives. Occupational therapists work with people of all ages and with a huge range of conditions, helping individuals find ways to manage the activities of daily living, work, and leisure that might otherwise be out of reach. At the University of Roehampton, this three-year full-time programme develops the knowledge and practical skills you need to support individuals across the lifespan, from children to older adults, and those living with physical health conditions, mental health challenges, or learning disabilities. You will study anatomy and physiology, psychology, human development, and occupational science alongside the specific assessment and intervention skills that characterise occupational therapy practice. Clinical placements are a core part of the programme, ensuring that your learning is grounded in real experience with clients in a range of settings.

Graduates qualify to register with the Health and Care Professions Council and work as occupational therapists in the NHS, local authority social care, schools, mental health services, forensic settings, community health, and private practice. There is sustained demand for qualified occupational therapists across the UK, and the profession offers clear routes into specialist practice, management, research, and education. The degree also provides a foundation for postgraduate study in areas such as mental health practice, paediatrics, or neurological rehabilitation.
