About this course

Occupational therapy is a healthcare profession that enables people to participate in the activities that give their lives meaning and value, whatever their age or the nature of their health condition, disability, or life circumstance. Occupational therapists work with people who face physical, mental, cognitive, or developmental challenges, helping them to adapt their activities, their environment, or the way they do things so that they can live, work, and participate in society as fully as possible. The profession is founded on the conviction that occupation, doing things that matter, is fundamental to health and wellbeing.

At Coventry University, this three-year, full-time programme is accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and prepares you for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. You will develop knowledge of health conditions and their impact on function, assessment and intervention skills, the theory base of the profession, and the ability to work effectively with individuals across the lifespan and in a range of settings. Practice placements are integral to the programme, giving you hands-on clinical experience in hospitals, community services, mental health teams, schools, and care homes throughout your studies.

Graduates qualify to work as occupational therapists in NHS trusts, community health services, social care, mental health, paediatric services, rehabilitation, and independent practice. The profession offers significant opportunities for specialisation and career development, and many occupational therapists go on to senior clinical, managerial, research, or academic roles. Postgraduate study in occupational therapy, health sciences, or related areas is another route for those who wish to develop specialist expertise or pursue research that advances the evidence base of the profession.

I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: anatomy teaching here is particularly strong β€” full dissection experience. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” the city i…

Worth it overall
It's been a mixed experience, but mostly positive. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” good transport links make it easy to visit other UK citie…
