Nursing (Blended Learning) Adult

Adult nursing is one of the most directly meaningful of all professional roles, combining clinical skill with compassionate care at some of the most important moments in people's lives. Nurses are at the centre of healthcare delivery, responsible not only for carrying out clinical procedures but for observing, assessing, and responding to patients' changing needs, and for communicating clearly with patients, families, and the wider healthcare team. Adult nursing specifically focuses on the care of adults across a wide range of settings, from acute hospital wards and intensive care to community, mental health liaison, and palliative care.

At the University of Huddersfield, this three-year, full-time programme is delivered using a blended learning approach, combining university-based teaching with practical clinical placements. Blended learning means that some of your academic study takes place online as well as on campus, offering a degree of flexibility in how and where you engage with theory. The programme covers the full scope of adult nursing practice, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, care planning, clinical assessment, and the communication skills essential for effective patient-centred care.

Throughout your training you will develop both technical clinical competence and the professional judgement to adapt your practice to complex and sometimes unpredictable situations. Clinical placements across a range of healthcare settings are central to the programme, giving you hands-on experience under supervised professional guidance.

Nursing is a regulated profession in the UK, and successful completion of an approved nursing degree leads to eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Once registered, graduates can work across the NHS and private and third-sector healthcare, and can progress into specialist clinical roles, nurse leadership, advanced practice, education, or research. Adult nursing graduates are consistently among the most employable of all degree completers, with strong demand for their skills across a wide range of healthcare environments.
