Adult nursing is the branch of nursing concerned with the care of people from young adulthood through to old age, across the full range of health conditions and care settings. Nurses are the largest professional group in the NHS and in healthcare more widely, providing the sustained clinical care, patient education, and human support that is central to good health outcomes. The adult nursing role requires both significant clinical knowledge and a deep capacity for empathy, communication, and professional judgement.

At Nottingham Trent University's Mansfield campus, this three-year full-time programme prepares you to become a skilled and compassionate adult nurse. The programme is structured around the core NHS values of care, compassion, competence, communication, courage, and commitment, which are woven throughout the teaching rather than treated as abstract principles. You will study the theory and science of nursing, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nursing assessment, and evidence-based practice, alongside significant periods of clinical placement in hospital and community settings where you develop your practical skills under supervision.

The blend of classroom learning and hands-on experience is designed to equip you for the real-world challenges of nursing practice from your first day of qualified work.

On completing the programme, you will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Registered Nurse (Adult), which qualifies you to practise in the NHS and private healthcare settings. Adult nurses work in acute hospital wards, outpatient departments, intensive care, community nursing, care homes, and a growing range of specialist roles. Career development opportunities are significant, with pathways into specialist practice, advanced nursing roles, nursing management, and education.
