Nursing
Adult nursing is the branch of nursing concerned with the care of adults across the full span of life, from young adults through to the elderly, in a wide range of clinical settings including general medical and surgical wards, community nursing, intensive care, and outpatient and day-case services. Adult nurses assess and monitor patients' conditions, plan and deliver clinical care, administer medicines, support patients and their families through illness and recovery, and coordinate care with doctors, therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The role requires clinical knowledge, practical skill, emotional resilience, and the ability to communicate with great clarity and compassion in demanding circumstances.
At Edge Hill University in Lancashire, this three-year full-time programme leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a qualified adult nurse. The programme combines academic study with substantial clinical placement across a range of NHS and community settings, giving you the theoretical grounding and the direct patient-facing experience that safe and effective nursing requires. You will study anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, health assessment, evidence-based practice, and the professional and ethical frameworks that govern nursing, developing the comprehensive clinical knowledge that the NMC requires for registration.
