About this course

Molecular and cellular biology with biotechnology sits at the heart of modern life science, combining the study of the fundamental molecular mechanisms that underlie all living processes with the application of that knowledge to practical and commercial ends. Molecular biology examines how genetic information is stored, expressed and regulated, how cells communicate and respond to their environment, and how dysfunction at the molecular level gives rise to disease. Cellular biology extends that understanding to the level of the cell, examining how its components are organised and how cells divide, differentiate and interact.

Biotechnology translates these insights into real-world applications, from vaccine design and therapeutic development to agricultural improvement and environmental remediation.

At the University of Glasgow, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you an international dimension to your scientific education. You will develop a rigorous grounding in biochemistry, genetics and cell biology, building an integrated understanding of how molecular function generates the complexity of living organisms.
