Modern Languages (Two Languages) and Linguistics
Studying two languages alongside linguistics is an intellectually rich combination. At the University of Southampton, this four-year full-time programme allows you to study two of French, German, or Spanish alongside a sustained engagement with linguistics. You will develop genuine proficiency in both languages, covering grammar, writing, reading, listening, and spoken communication at an advanced level, while also studying the structure of language more broadly through phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, and language acquisition. Graduates from modern languages and linguistics programmes are highly employable across a wide range of fields.
