About this course

Medicine is one of the most demanding and consequential of all degree programmes, preparing students to become doctors who can diagnose illness, prescribe treatment, and take responsibility for the health and wellbeing of patients across a lifetime of clinical practice. At the University of Oxford, medicine is a six-year, full-time programme studied within one of the world's greatest universities and clinical environments. The Oxford course is distinctive in structure: the first three years lead to a Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree, in which you engage deeply with the scientific foundations of medicine and conduct a substantial research project, while the final three years are devoted to clinical training in hospitals and general practice settings across the Oxford region.
