About this course

Medicine is the discipline dedicated to understanding, preventing, and treating human disease and promoting health, bringing together knowledge of the biological sciences, clinical skills, and the professional and ethical obligations that define medical practice. Becoming a doctor involves a profound commitment to learning: the knowledge base is vast, the clinical responsibilities are serious, and the professional formation required is demanding and ongoing throughout a career. This five-year full-time degree at the University of Lincoln prepares you to graduate as a provisionally registered doctor, eligible to enter the UK Foundation Programme upon successful completion.

You will develop across the full breadth of clinical medicine, building your knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and the clinical presentations and management of disease across all major specialties, from surgery and medicine through to paediatrics, psychiatry, and general practice. Clinical placements, which are woven throughout the programme, place you in real healthcare settings where you develop examination skills, clinical reasoning, patient communication, and the professional habits that safe and compassionate medical practice requires. Lincoln's programme also develops wider skills in research, leadership, and public health, with particular attention to the rural and coastal healthcare contexts in which many of its graduates will eventually practise.

Graduating with provisional GMC registration is the first step into a medical career. Doctors practise across an extraordinary range of specialties, from emergency medicine, cardiology, and oncology to general practice, public health, and academic research. The five-year commitment reflects the depth of formation required; most doctors continue learning and developing their expertise throughout their working lives, through postgraduate training, specialty examinations, and continuous professional development.

A great decision
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” good transport li…
