Medicine at Cambridge is a six-year full-time programme that combines the rigorous scientific education for which Cambridge is renowned with the clinical training needed to produce excellent, compassionate doctors. The key to being a great clinician, as the programme itself puts it, is combining practical skills with an excellent grounding in the science underlying practice, and the Cambridge course is designed to give you exactly that. The first three years develop a deep scientific understanding of the biological foundations of medicine, leading to a BA degree, before a further three years of clinical training in hospitals and community settings.

You will study the biomedical sciences that underpin clinical medicine in depth, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and neuroscience, before moving into integrated clinical learning that places scientific reasoning and patient care in direct dialogue. The curriculum emphasises not only what happens in disease but why, developing the mechanistic understanding that allows clinicians to reason about unfamiliar presentations rather than simply pattern-match to known conditions. The typical entry tariff is 216 points, reflecting the highly competitive nature of this programme.

Graduation leads to foundation training in the NHS, the first step on the pathway to full registration and specialisation. Doctors from Cambridge go on to careers across every area of medicine, including academic medicine, surgery, general practice, psychiatry, and public health, as well as in research, policy, and global health leadership.
