About this course

Medicine at Brunel is a five-year full-time MBBS programme that equips you with the educational, clinical, and professional skills needed to practise as a new doctor and to progress into specialist training in the UK or overseas. The degree combines rigorous biomedical science education in the early years with increasing clinical immersion as you progress, ensuring that your scientific understanding is always connected to real patient care. A year abroad gives you the opportunity to experience clinical medicine in an international context, broadening your perspective on healthcare systems and medical practice.

You will develop the diagnostic reasoning, clinical examination, communication, and professional skills that are the foundation of safe and effective medical practice, supported by early patient contact and a curriculum that integrates clinical and scientific learning from the outset. Brunel's medicine programme is designed to develop not only technical competence but the broader professional attributes, including empathy, integrity, and resilience, that define excellent doctors. The programme leads to full GMC registration eligibility after the two-year Foundation Programme.

Graduation is followed by Foundation Training in the NHS, after which doctors enter speciality or general practice training. Brunel MBBS graduates are well prepared both for the full range of NHS specialities and for working in international healthcare settings. The medical degree also provides the foundation for careers in academic medicine, global health, medical education, healthcare management, and policy, for those who want to extend their contribution beyond the clinic.
