About this course

Mechanical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the design, analysis, and production of systems and devices involving mechanical motion, energy transfer, and material behaviour. It is one of the broadest and most historically significant engineering disciplines, underpinning everything from transport systems and manufacturing machinery to power generation and precision instruments. Mechanical engineers need a solid grounding in mathematics, physics, mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science, combined with the practical design and problem-solving skills to apply that knowledge in real engineering contexts.

At Bedfordshire this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, giving you a preparatory stage to develop the mathematical and scientific foundations you need before entering the main engineering curriculum. The foundation ensures you can engage fully with degree-level material regardless of your starting qualifications.
