About this course

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most fundamental engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis, and manufacture of mechanical systems from the smallest precision components to large-scale industrial machinery. It applies the principles of physics, thermodynamics, materials science, and dynamics to understand how things move and how energy is converted from one form to another. The discipline underlies an enormous range of industries, from automotive and aerospace to manufacturing, energy, robotics, and consumer products.

At Teesside University, this four-year full-time programme develops both the theoretical foundations and the practical skills of mechanical engineering. You will study electrical circuit theory alongside mechanical principles, reflecting the integrated nature of modern engineering systems where mechanical and electrical expertise increasingly overlap. The curriculum covers thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, dynamics, manufacturing processes, and materials science, alongside the design and analysis skills that professional engineers need.
