About this course

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most foundational engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis, manufacture and maintenance of mechanical systems from tiny precision instruments to the largest industrial machines. The discipline encompasses thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, dynamics and materials science, and it provides the analytical and creative toolkit from which innovations in transport, energy, manufacturing, robotics and medical devices all emerge. Mechanical engineers work across virtually every sector of the economy, from aerospace and automotive to biomedical engineering and consumer products.

At Queen Mary University of London, this four-year programme develops your curiosity about how mechanisms work alongside the rigorous analytical and design skills that engineering practice demands. You will develop expertise in the core areas of mechanical engineering, progressing from foundational theory in mathematics, physics and materials through to advanced topics in design, dynamics, thermofluids and manufacturing systems. The programme develops creative problem-solving skills and prepares you to make meaningful contributions to engineering challenges at the frontier of what is technically possible.
