About this course

Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most versatile of the engineering disciplines, concerned with the design, analysis, and production of systems and machines that involve mechanical motion, energy, and material behaviour. From industrial machinery and automotive systems to aerospace structures and renewable energy technologies, mechanical engineering sits at the heart of the physical world we have built around us. The discipline requires a rigorous grounding in mathematics, physics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science, combined with the design and problem-solving skills needed to translate that knowledge into real systems.

At Teesside this degree is offered through flexible distance learning, making it accessible to students who cannot attend a traditional campus-based programme. The distance learning mode allows you to study the core principles of mechanical engineering at your own pace and in your own location, with all learning materials accessible through the university's virtual learning environment. You will cover areas such as fluid power systems, including pneumatic and hydraulic engineering, engineering materials, manufacturing processes, and the design of mechanical components and systems.
