About this course

Mechanical engineering is the engineering discipline most directly concerned with how things move and work. From the thermodynamics of an engine to the dynamics of a rotating shaft, from the strength of a structural component to the flow of fluid through a pipe, it encompasses the fundamental physical principles that govern the behaviour of machines and systems. The discipline is both rigorously analytical and intensely practical, requiring you to understand theory deeply enough to apply it to situations you have not encountered before.

At Anglia Ruskin University this four-year full-time degree prepares you for professional engineering practice, covering core subjects including statics and dynamics, materials science, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, manufacturing processes, and engineering design. You will develop both analytical and practical skills, working in laboratories and on design projects as well as engaging with the theoretical foundations of the discipline.
