Mathematics/Theatre Studies
Mathematics and theatre studies might appear to occupy opposite ends of the academic spectrum, but combining them opens up an unusually rich educational experience. Mathematics is the language of pattern, logic, and structure, developing the capacity for abstract reasoning and rigorous proof that underpins science, technology, finance, and philosophy. Theatre studies is the investigation of performance, text, staging, and the conditions under which live art creates meaning, demanding interpretive flexibility, collaboration, and creative thought.

At the University of Glasgow, this part-time programme allows you to develop expertise in both disciplines at your own pace, with flexibility to choose from a wide variety of courses in your honours years. In mathematics, you will build from foundational theory through to more advanced areas, developing the problem-solving skills and logical precision that make mathematics graduates so versatile. In theatre studies, you will engage with dramatic texts, performance theory, and the history of theatre, as well as practising and analysing the craft of performance itself.
A year abroad is available, giving you the opportunity to study mathematics or theatre in an international context and to develop a broader perspective on both disciplines. Glasgow's vibrant arts scene and strong mathematical tradition make it a stimulating environment for both strands of the degree.
Graduates who have studied mathematics alongside a humanities subject occupy a distinctive position in the employment market. The combination opens routes into education, data analysis, software development, arts administration, cultural policy, journalism, and theatre-making.
