About this course

Mathematics and psychology might seem like an unusual combination, but they share a deep and productive relationship. Psychology is increasingly quantitative, relying on statistical modelling, experimental design, and computational approaches to understand how the mind works. Mathematics, meanwhile, develops precisely the skills in abstraction, logical reasoning, and rigorous argument that make a psychologist's claims about human behaviour trustworthy.

Together these disciplines produce graduates who can move between the formal and the human with unusual fluency.

At Glasgow you will follow a four-year full-time programme that develops both subjects to honours level, giving you the time and depth to engage seriously with each. In mathematics you will study areas such as calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics, building the formal reasoning skills that underpin both pure and applied work. In psychology you will cover the core areas of the discipline, including cognitive, social, developmental, and biological psychology, and learn how empirical research is designed and evaluated.

The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the chance to study at an international partner university and bring fresh perspectives back to your final year.
