About this course

The combination of mathematics, statistics, and accounting brings together three disciplines that underpin an enormous share of modern economic and business life. Mathematics provides the theoretical foundations and the capacity for abstract reasoning; statistics gives you the tools to analyse data, quantify uncertainty, and draw valid inferences; and accounting provides the framework through which the financial performance and position of organisations is measured, reported, and interpreted. Together they constitute an exceptionally powerful and versatile graduate skill set.

At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year full-time programme develops your mathematical and statistical expertise alongside a fully accredited accounting degree, covering all three areas in genuine depth rather than treating any of them as secondary. You will develop proficiency in areas such as analysis, probability, statistical modelling, financial reporting, management accounting, and auditing, with the mathematical rigour that gives you an analytical edge over graduates who have studied accounting alone. The programme includes a year abroad, broadening your academic and personal development in an international context.

The entry tariff of 216 points reflects the demanding academic preparation the programme requires.

The accounting component of this degree provides a pathway towards membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland, which is a significant professional credential for those pursuing a career in accounting or finance. More broadly, graduates from this combination are exceptionally well positioned in the labour market. Careers in chartered accountancy, investment management, actuarial science, financial analysis, management consultancy, data science, and quantitative finance are all natural destinations.

The mathematical and statistical depth of the programme also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study in finance, statistics, economics, or operations research for those who wish to develop further specialist expertise.
