About this course

Mathematics and economics is a combination that reflects how much modern economics depends on mathematical tools, and how much mathematics gains in interest and motivation when applied to the behaviour of real economies. Economics uses mathematical models to understand how people make decisions, how markets allocate resources, how prices are formed and how policies affect incomes, employment and growth. Mathematics provides the analytical infrastructure: calculus, linear algebra, optimisation, probability and statistics, all of which are indispensable for the serious study of economics at degree level and beyond.

At Aberystwyth University you will study for three years full-time, developing depth in both disciplines and the ability to apply technical mathematical methods to economic questions. You will gain a thorough grounding in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory alongside the pure and applied mathematics that underpins quantitative analysis, building the technical aptitude and analytical skills that are most valued by employers in finance, consulting and economic research.
