About this course

Mathematics and statistical science is concerned with both the abstract structures that underlie all quantitative reasoning and the practical tools that allow us to draw reliable conclusions from data. Mathematics provides the formal framework, from analysis and algebra to topology and number theory, while statistical science supplies the methods for modelling uncertainty, testing hypotheses, and making sense of complex real-world data. At University College London, this three-year, full-time degree brings the two together in a programme that has been accredited by the Royal Statistical Society, reflecting the quality and depth of the statistical component in particular.

You will study pure and applied mathematics alongside probability theory and statistical inference, developing a rigorous understanding of both the theoretical foundations and the computational methods that modern statistics requires. The programme develops your capacity to construct mathematical proofs, to build and evaluate statistical models, and to work with data using the software tools central to contemporary research and practice. UCL's mathematicians and statisticians are working at the frontier of their fields, and you will study in an environment shaped by active research across areas including machine learning, Bayesian inference, mathematical physics, and number theory.
