About this course

Mathematics and economics is one of the most powerful combinations available at degree level. Economics is the discipline concerned with how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions in conditions of scarcity, and how markets and other institutions coordinate those decisions to produce outcomes. Mathematics is the natural language in which those processes can be modelled with precision, and modern economics is increasingly quantitative, relying on sophisticated mathematical tools to understand the complex, often non-linear dynamics of real economic systems.

Studying the two together means you develop genuine fluency in both, producing a graduate who can build and interpret economic models with mathematical rigour.

At the University of Dundee, this four-year full-time programme develops your mathematical and economic knowledge in an integrated way. You will study the tools of mathematical analysis, linear algebra, statistics, and econometrics alongside the core content of economic theory, from microeconomics and game theory to macroeconomics and international trade.
