About this course

Materials science is the discipline that underpins almost every physical technology in the modern world. It asks how the structure of matter at the atomic and molecular level determines the properties of materials at the scale we can see and use, and how those properties can be engineered, refined, and improved to meet demanding applications. From the semiconductors in electronic devices to the alloys in aircraft engines, the polymers in medical implants, and the ceramics in space vehicles, materials science is the foundational knowledge that makes advanced engineering possible.
