About this course

Materials chemistry sits at the boundary between fundamental science and technological application, asking how chemical knowledge can be used to create, understand, and improve the materials that underpin modern life. From the semiconductors in electronic devices to the polymers in medical implants, from batteries that store renewable energy to nanoscale structures with extraordinary properties, materials chemists work on challenges that matter across virtually every technology sector. This four-year full-time degree at the University of Glasgow gives you a rigorous foundation in chemistry alongside a focused engagement with how that knowledge translates into practical materials science.

You will study the chemistry of nanotechnology, electronics, polymers, and energy storage, learning how the behaviour of matter at the atomic and molecular level determines the properties of materials at the scale of devices and products.
