About this course

Marketing is the discipline concerned with understanding what people want, creating products and experiences that meet those needs, and communicating their value effectively. It is a field that draws on consumer psychology, data analytics, strategy, creativity, and communication, combining rigorous analysis with imaginative problem-solving. Effective marketing is central to the success of organisations of every kind, from global consumer brands to local charities, and the skills it develops are valued across the whole economy.

At the University of Portsmouth's London campus, located in the borough of Walthamstow, this three-year full-time BA (Hons) Marketing programme gives you a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of contemporary marketing. You will study consumer behaviour, market research, digital and social media marketing, brand management, advertising, and marketing strategy, developing both the conceptual frameworks and the practical skills that marketing roles demand. The London location is a genuine asset for marketing education: the city is home to some of the world's most creative advertising agencies, major brand headquarters, digital media companies, and an extraordinarily diverse consumer market, providing a professional context that enriches your studies in ways that a more remote location could not.

A year abroad is part of the programme, giving you the opportunity to study marketing in a different cultural and economic environment and to develop the international perspective that global brands and agencies increasingly require.

You will develop skills in digital marketing, data analysis, campaign planning, and professional communication, alongside the strategic and creative thinking that marketing careers demand.

Graduates go on to careers in brand management, digital marketing, advertising, market research, social media strategy, content creation, public relations, and marketing communications across all sectors. Many go on to professional qualifications through the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Postgraduate study in marketing, data analytics, or business administration is a well-supported route.

Would do it again
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant s…

Good but not perfect
It's been a mixed experience, but mostly positive. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” local cost of living is…
