About this course

Marketing and business management is a combination that addresses two of the most central functions in any organisation: creating and communicating value to customers, and directing the resources and capabilities of the organisation to achieve its goals. Marketing has evolved well beyond advertising to encompass market research, consumer psychology, digital strategy, brand management, and the data-driven processes through which organisations understand and respond to their customers. Business management provides the strategic, financial, and operational frameworks within which marketing decisions are made and implemented.

The Open University's programme is studied part-time and through distance learning, making it well suited to people who are managing other professional or personal commitments alongside their studies. Many students are already working in marketing, business, or related roles and use the programme to formalise and develop expertise they are building in practice. You will study marketing theory, consumer behaviour, digital marketing, brand strategy, market research, and communications alongside core business management content in finance, strategy, operations, and organisational behaviour.

The Open University's online environment is well developed and peer-supported.

Graduates are well placed for careers in marketing, brand management, digital marketing, market research, advertising, public relations, business development, and general management across a wide range of industries. The combination of marketing depth and management breadth is valued by organisations that need people who can both develop customer-facing strategies and understand the business context in which those strategies operate. Postgraduate study in marketing, business, or a related specialism is open to graduates who wish to develop further expertise or pursue professional marketing qualifications.
