Management in the creative industries calls for a distinctive combination of business acumen and cultural intelligence. The music and performing arts sectors are driven by passion and creativity, but they are also complex commercial ecosystems involving contracts, licensing, touring, venue operations, artist relations, and financial management. A manager in this world needs to understand both the art and the business, communicating fluently with performers, promoters, agents, and funders while making sound strategic and financial decisions.

At the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, this three-year full-time programme is designed specifically for that context. You will develop the management skills, professional experience, and industry contacts needed to build a sustained career as a manager in music and the performing arts. The curriculum covers core business disciplines, including finance, marketing, human resources, and strategic management, applied directly to the performing arts context.

You will study how music and entertainment businesses are structured, how rights and revenues flow through the industry, and how organisations plan and deliver performances, tours, and events at every scale. LIPA's distinctive character, rooted in its performing arts environment and its connections to the live music and entertainment world, means you will learn alongside practitioners and develop networks that extend directly into the industry.

You will also develop the communication, leadership, and project management skills that management roles in any industry demand, but sharpened through application in a sector where relationships and reputation are everything.

Graduates go on to careers as artist managers, tour managers, venue managers, music publishers, events coordinators, promoters, and arts administrators. Many work in the broader creative industries, including theatre, dance, and live events. Some go on to establish their own management companies or creative enterprises.

Postgraduate study in arts management, music business, or cultural policy is an option for those who wish to develop a more specialist or academic focus.
