Law with International Relations

Law with international relations is a degree that equips you to engage with the legal and political dimensions of a world in which national boundaries are increasingly porous. Law provides the framework of rules, principles, and institutions through which rights are protected, disputes are resolved, and power is constrained. International relations examines how states and other actors interact in the absence of a single global authority, exploring questions of diplomacy, trade, security, human rights, and the governance of shared challenges.

The two disciplines complement each other naturally, since so much of international affairs is conducted within, through, or against legal frameworks.

At the University of Chichester, this programme includes a foundation year, providing an accessible route into LLB-level legal study for students who benefit from additional preparation before the degree proper. The foundation year builds the academic skills and contextual knowledge needed to succeed in law, and you progress directly into the full degree on successful completion. You will study the core areas of English law alongside international relations, developing both the legal reasoning and the broader analytical capabilities that the combination requires.

The programme is designed to prepare you for a career as a barrister or solicitor, alongside other professional and policy-focused pathways.

Graduates can pursue the further professional training required to qualify as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales. The international relations component broadens career options to include roles in international law, NGOs, intergovernmental organisations, diplomatic services, and policy work. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in law, international relations, or combined fields such as international human rights law or global governance.
