Law with German is a programme that takes seriously the increasingly international character of legal practice. Common law, the tradition of England and Wales, differs substantially from the civil law tradition of Germany, and understanding both equips you with a comparative legal perspective that is rare and genuinely valuable in a globalised legal market. German law is based on a comprehensive civil code and has been highly influential in shaping legal systems across Europe and beyond, and studying it alongside English law gives you insights into how different legal traditions solve the same fundamental problems of property, contract, tort, and public law.

At the University of Warwick, this four-year full-time LLB develops an excellent understanding of the core legal principles of English law alongside a thorough grounding in the foundations of the German legal system. You will study the major areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, equity, and property, developing the analytical and argumentative skills that legal practice demands. Your German language study will develop your linguistic proficiency to a high level, and you will engage with German legal texts, institutions, and the intellectual traditions of German jurisprudence.

The combination equips you to navigate the demands of a global legal market in which cross-border transactions, EU-rooted regulatory frameworks, and international arbitration increasingly require lawyers who understand more than one legal tradition. The typical entry tariff is 184 UCAS points.
